India, Feb 27: India has asked Pakistan to ensure immediate release and safe return of IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman in its custody after he went missing in an aerial dog fight with Pakistani jets that violated Indian airspace today morning.

India also advised Pakistan to ensure no harm is inflicted to the injured IAF pilot in its custody and objected to Pakistan’s vulgar video and photo display of him, which is in violation of norms under International Humanitarian Law and Geneva Convention.

Earlier in the day, the MEA summoned Pakistan's Acting High Commissioner to lodge protest against Pakistan's unprovoked act of aggression against India, including violation of Indian air space by Pakistan Air Force to target Indian military posts.

The air space violation came a day after IAF jets decimated Jaish-e-Mohammed’s terror camp across the LoC.

This violation is in contrast to India's non-military pre-emptive strike at JeM terrorist camp in Balakot yesterday, MEA said.

It also said Pakistan has acted with aggression against India, instead of fulfilling its international obligation and bilateral commitment to take credible action against terrorist entities and individuals operating from its soil.

MEA also conveyed India reserves the right to take firm and decisive action to protect its national security, sovereignty and territorial integrity against any act of aggression or cross-border terrorism.

The MEA also said India had to repulse PAF aircraft as it had plans to attack Indian military assets.
